Crank Scrapers

Recommended Posts

Run both, speaking from experience I got an extra 100RPM at the back straight of Pukekohe with one [ mind you the ol' chevy crank can carry a lot of oil ]

Windage trays are needed to stop oil aeration [ frothing ] drag racers use a "deep sump" for the same purpose

Baffles are needed to stop oil starvation under extreme G's , the best sumps use "trap doors" as baffles

Crank Scrapers keep oil off the crank [ usually on the RH side of the engine ] they reduce internal resistance

I don't use a scraper or baffles now, the alternative is $10K in a dry sump system

If the rules only allowed a stock oiling system, try and run an oil accumulator [ Moroso Accusump ] in the oil cooler lines [ they are external, and can save an engine ]

Thanks Kerry, Will run both in the race car now. Cheers.

For what it's worth, all the E9 CSL racecars ran accusumps mounted in the cabin.

Yeah nearly everyone in this post runs a race car Erron. But your right. There is no way you could drive your road car hard enough legally on the road to need one.

"Yeah, and lowered E30's don't have a reputation for wiping out the sump and pickup."

Accusumps are great for "priming" up oil pressure on cold starts [ if you shut the valve before switching off the engine ]

Accusumps are also great for unwinding a turbo after switching off the engine [ if you don't shut the valve before switching off the engine ]

They are a cheap insurance [ the yanks love them on "Claimer" engines, because they are part of the vehicle so they don't get claimed ]

I know a few guys in the pug world running them as our engines suffer from oil surge/starvation problems, and they swear by them (accusumps).
