dannie 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2009 Hi, I drive a BMW E30 318i 1986 4 door manual. It currently has central locking (manual key turning not keyless entry). It unlocks all doors, the boot and fuel cover from the drivers door with the turn of the key. Also it unlocks everything if you open the boot. What I want to know is if I can install this keyless entry/alarm kit so I can unlock my doors etc from a wireless device: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=212629067 I'm not sure about actuators in my door panels and boot lining. Do they have to be electric for this to work, not air compressed. I wouldn't know what mine are. Thanks, Dan
hotwire 352 Report post Posted April 16, 2009 Dan, Any alarm/immobiliser with remote locking ability or remote locking kit will connect directly to the locking module in the car & give you keyless locking/unlocking of doors/boot/cap. All actuators in your car are electric. Some Benz & VW/Audi cars are all that I know are vacuum operated. These kits can operate vacuum systems but often require resetting to extend the lock pulse duration & sometimes fitting an electric actuator in the drivers door
BLACK DORIS 9 Report post Posted April 16, 2009 I'm interested in this for my e30, just wondering if there are any issues that BS members have found with putting keyless systems in their cars? Especially earlier models, I'm sure I've seen a few things online where the keyless system has caused problems with some older vehicles... cheers

BLACK DORIS 9 Report post Posted April 17, 2009 ^^ Cheers. Which brands/models would you recommend? - if you can be bothered!!!
hotwire 352 Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Mongoose, Dynatron to name a couple. You can just get a keyless locking kit if thats all you want. An entry level alarm is not a lot more cost though.
