jjs 64 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) Most people here want info about sending a car from the UK to NZ, but I am after experiences and costs associated with sending a car to the UK. A mate of mine is off to London very shortly and there is a possibility I will move there at the end of the year. He has the opportunity to buy a 94 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet from a family friend. It is a very nice NZ new car travelled around 90km and is a factory "Sportline" model. He could buy it for around $15k. For those of you that are unfamiliar with them here is a pic of a similar car: So, I was thinking... I really like these cars. There is nothing modern this side of a Bentley Azure that effortly wafts along like them. They are superbly built and getting rarer and increasingly desirable. Either I would drive it when I got there (if I ever did go - the job market ain't looking too flash). Or, my mate could sell it. UK Classic car mags suggest these sell for GBP 12k - 15k. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good info regarding taxes, importation rules and the process of registering a car in the UK? Does anyone know of the approximate shipping cost? Is there anything else I would be up for? Just wanting to know if it is a viable option or uneconomic... Thanks in advance for your help! elmarco 56 Report post Posted May 10, 2009 (edited) Sorry - can't offer any factual information, but I would suggest that the car would need to go through a full homologation check (E certification) and be subject to both duty and VAT ($$). Have a look here Edit: Scratch that...
