bimmer boy 21 Report post Posted May 25, 2009 So my steering wheel is looking a little tatty now, and is looking pretty worn out. So I was looking at getting a replacement one by getting the same kind but just a mint one. But I thought If I was going to go to that much trouble I might aswell get a cooler one insted. At the moment I have a 3-spoke 'sports' steering wheel (Similar to the ones that came in earlier E34's) But on my steering wheel the Airbag warning light is actually on the steering wheel itself rather than in the speedo unit. I am looking to replace the wheel with either one of these wheels posted below. What I am wanting to know is if it is possible to fit them even though I dont have a dash Airbag light or would I need to get a different speedo unit that has one or just dont bother at all? *Glenn* 854 Report post Posted August 17, 2009 You can't use the wheel in the other picture. You wont get a WOF. I suggest you look around for a good second hand wheel. The same as whats in your car. New..they are about $1500, because they have the control unit all built into the steering wheel.
spike 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 Going along those lines, if I were to replace a standard airbag wheel with a non airbag wheel, apart from the obvious drawback of not having an airbag in an accident, would there be any other issues? WOF, warning lights etc?

I've always wanted to do mine in suede but haven't got around to it. Would look pretty mint if you get someone like retro to reupholster it.
AzonicNick 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 Howcome there are so many recent cars with aftermarket wheels? Do they all get dodgy wofs? I've always wondered how they get around the rules.

Would look pretty mint if you get someone like retro to reupholster it. Mostly because my steering wheel is about as sexy as a lesbian buzz cut.. Sick of its ugliness so thought a change would be nice. But I guess since I cant change it I will stick with it and just get a new car.. Cheers for all the help guys
