BMW 540iA E34!

Recommended Posts

Well as much as I would like to keep my 540iA, I must cut my loses and part with it due to my increasing study commitments

Some details about the car

540iA

5 speed Auto

4.0 V8

Blue metallic style paint.

259,000kms - Seem to be a majority of highway km's.

Standard Alloys

6th Owner (excluding dealers)

I've had the car for 6 months, would plan to keep it, much, much longer but my studies have to take a priority over the car.

It's had the following work done.

Before I bought it, it had a new radiator and coolant, brake pads and front wheel bearings done.

At around 252,500kms:

5w-40 Helix Ultra oil change (8L) with genuine filter.

8x NGK Iridium spark plugs

Other work over the last few months includes (German Parts from Euro-Italia)

  • Drive shaft - Gearbox rubber disk coupling
  • Front left thrust arm (Incl Bush and ball joint)
  • Front right thrust arm (Incl Bush and ball joint)
  • Front left control arm (Incl Bush and ball joint)
  • Front right control arm (Incl Bush and ball joint)
  • New Transmission filter
  • New Transmission pan gasket
  • Transmission flush with Penrite ATFBMV004
  • Front left and right engine mounts
  • Gearbox left and right rubber mounts
  • H&R lowering springs
  • Wheel alignment.
Other things include

  • Alpine MP3/CD player stereo.
  • Rear JL Audio speakers
  • Front JL Audio Tweeters
  • Grey leather seats
  • New front headlight/fog bulbs
Plus a few minor things here and there, over the recent months I've spend somewhere in the vicinity of $3,500 on it. I have over $2000 worth of that in receipts. Excluding all my time and effort of course!

This is a well looked after car, ideal for someone with some time on their hands that wants to continue fixing up the common wear items. I recommend sorting out the rear sub frame/diff mounts and drive shaft hanger/bearing as the drive shaft is giving a slightly vibration under acceleration at 1.8k-2.0k rpm, and oil change is due at 260,000ks. Would see it pretty much right for sometime with those things done.

I would be doing it, but I just don’t have the time with my finals coming up fast and other commitments to consider. A tough choice, but it have to let it go onto someone that has the time for it.

After $6,500 firm. It owes me a LOT more but I figure that is a fair price, coupled with its rare desirable colour/condition.

021-02425794.

I am located in Auckland, please give me a call or text if you’re interested.

Cheers

Mike.

Thanks guys. Yeah I did Ian, hasn't responded yet. I think you would be pressed hard to find a better E34 for the money, in this colour too, I'm still happy to use it, so prepared to just wait for someone to come along offering what I'm after...

Some pictures in average lighting with it's current factory spec 15x7 alloys. Lovely.

This also has a tow bar, ideal for towing..

Appears it was fitted by Jerry Clayton BMW on the shore in the late 90's. Don't think this had much use recently, all the cables are there of course, mounted properly.

I called BMW up and it was apparently it was serviced by Jerry Clayton from somewhere in the mid 90's up to 2001, but they had changed their PC system recently so the history was not fully viewable according to the guy I spoke with.

The gearbox was also serviced by the Eastern Automatic shop, NZ's ZF specialists, the filter was done in mid 2007, and not too long ago this year.

So to clarify the only lead issue with it at present is the drive shaft hanger/bearing being tired so it gives a minor vibration under slow speed acceleration at approximately 2000rpm.

The electric drivers seat works intermittently, usually its okay when your stopped, I believe the control box relays are the culprit.

Air condition is freezing cold, and goes hot. Love it.

Sunroof is a blessing too, I think they all have them. Just a shame its too cold at the moment with them!

Dash has the usual LIC light message, with the headlights on, apparently the number plate light not going, but it is. Very common issue with the E34s

The rest of the electrics work great, no dead pixels on the dash scroll message. The bulbs for the OBC on the console have gone though, but you can read it at night with the keypad backlights lighting the LCD. I was going to fix it, but decided not to, as it was a MAJOR distraction when I was driving

A few things I remembered tonight!

Haha, yeah. It was the biggest waste of money and the dumbest setup I had ever done.... But I learnt a lot from it!

I love it factory, how it should be... not waking up the neighbourhood! :)

Thanks. I believe I have a guy from here very interested in going for it, we will see :)
