Loud thump when braking

Recommended Posts

(Sorry title is meant to say loud, not lous!)

Hi

Car is 1988 E28 525ee.

When braking suddenly I feel and hear a loud thump from the front suspension (somewhere up there) when I first hit the brakes.

It's making me a bit nervous.

Lower control arms recently replaced but it was doing it prior to this as well.

Any ideas?

Cheers

this may sound silly but check your calliper bolts, ive had that one before,

The sliding pins or the carrier bolts?

^ I would check the carrier bolts that bolt to the strut, IIRC you just painted your calipers so make sure you torque them up to factory settings, even use some threadlock, I have had the same problem too.

Could it be the Center Hanger driveshaft mount?

I thaught it was brakes when mine went.

Actually new brakes aren't on yet so I'll double check the bolts when they go on. Cheers.

I'm pretty confident I can feel it from the drivers if not both front sides of the car. I'm also pretty confident it's in front of me. Cheers.

I would agree with above - check everything is torqued up and not missing any bolts - and make sure your suspension brushes etc are screwed

Cheers
