MrDevine 14 Report post Posted August 26, 2009 (edited) First time poster – I'm gonna check out this (link below) 1993 540i in Palmy this Saturday. Looks pretty sweet. What do you guys reckon these are worth? I've seen 94 540is in arctic white go for around $6500 with similar Km's on TM. Obviously low owner car a bonus, however apparently all the owner has done is new brake pads, oil changes and a couple of batteries. These cars would be looking at a few maintanence bits about now? Lots of NZ buyers must have settled on navy blue leather interior, like this one, so 90's http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=237134390 I sold my 87 535i (Images below) a few years ago and they're sweet cars, shape 10 times better than the next model, although the interiors are looking a bit dated. Want a V8, before fuel becomes truly expensive. Thanks, Mr D. Edited August 26, 2009 by Mr Devine
greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted August 26, 2009 ^^ CrAzY MoNeY!1! IMO, compared to others that have sold you'd be looking at 6K max. There have been plenty up for sale here and on trade me which have stuggled to sell for 5k!

MrDevine 14 Report post Posted August 26, 2009 Thanks guys, thought it was steep, we'll see how negotiable he is. I thought around $6500 depending on condition. I like the fact its one owner since 16,000kms – also the dudes Dad originally brought it, and has since traded down to a 325i, and now a 125d, so a BMW family. I kinda like it with the stock suspension, when I had my 535i lowered the ride was def a bit rough but maybe I needed new shocks. All I'd do to it is tints and cut out a muffler for some rumble. twisted 45 Report post Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) To give you an Idea, Just bought a '94, with 214 clicks, super super tidy. In need of Intake manifold gaskets, and the electrical headrests don't go up and down. KIts also got a FSH up to 150k, with anecdotal evidence regular servicing has been carried out since. NZ New Paid in the sub 4k bracket. Yep, needs wheels/tyres and a drop. Edited August 28, 2009 by twisted
MrDevine 14 Report post Posted August 30, 2009 Cher Twisted, car looks nice – UPDATE – Checked 540 out on Saturday and it seemed pretty sweet. Feels tight and interior good. Faults are sticky sunroof, and corner lip of boot has a chip – expected scratches on the doors. Just had new brake pads installed which need to be worn in. He says car has only needed new tires, batteries and the brakes along with 7k oil changes. Do any of you think it would need some more bits shortly? Like radiator, water pump? I'm not a mech but it ran pretty smooth, had slight steering play, but not uncommon on these. Also think could upgrade shocks in next 15,000kms Got him down to $7500 depending on inspection, which I don't think is cheap but fair for these kms and condition – might be able to get him a bit closer to $7k. Unusually the air con actually works. As mentioned have seen 180,000k 540s go for $6500. But how many low owner 540's do you see? Not that keen for +200kms version, the last one I had was up there and a bunch of things didn't work. Chez, Mr D.
