DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 there are a few things to look out for on a 206... nothing major major but just things to look for... Do you want a list? Don't get me wrong - fantastic cars, but like all cars they have their individual faults.

DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 (edited) Cambelt = 80,000km or 4 years Knocking coming from lower control arms. Check to make sure the airbag light isn't playing up on it -it'll be the airbag lead under the seat, they have a tendency over time to un-clip Exhaust for rust, just ahead of the rear muffler Trailing arm bearings - you will hear a creaking sound from the rear axle The seat adjuster breaks off, it's on the handbrake side - in image you can see the passengers seat has one drivers doesn't. The 138hp has great low end power and is fantastic in the city. The 307 2.0 uses the same 2.0 engine basically as the gti. The S16 will be a jap import gti... Thats all for now that i can remember... You also had a facelift in i think it was 2004 where they changed to the canbus system, 16 inch multispoke wheels, a really easy way to tell is by the radio controller behind the steering wheel, the pre-face lifts are a round controller, the post facelift are oval. see this one? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-241899971.htm Edited September 15, 2009 by DRTDVL

Guest Simon* Report post Posted September 15, 2009 Cheers Heath. All good gen Yeah I don't mind Nath that but she'll be put off by the age and the km's
DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 (edited) Cheers Heath. All good gen Yeah I don't mind Nath that but she'll be put off by the age and the km's You could look at a late model 2000+ HDI or GTI-6 (s16 for jap imports) they would be about that price... being the last of the range they are typically very well sorted re problems... The 98 onwards xsi's used the 94 - 97 S16 engine in them, so they do have some pull to them... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-242367099.htm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-241949867.htm Opps the HDI's are still around 10k Edited September 15, 2009 by DRTDVL
Guest Simon* Report post Posted September 15, 2009 Question re the 206. The GTi with 2L blocks are all 3 door? Wouldn't mind a GTi spec 5 door hatch - do they exist or is that now 307 territory?
DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2009 The only 5 door gti's where the nz new 206 s/w's and they are rare... but awesome they are all the facelift models... If you want 4 doors, look at the 306 xsi for the same price you'll get a better car... Although in saying that the little 1.6 in the 206 is plenty powerful. Most of the S/W's in NZ are the imported 1.6ltrs http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-234868896.htm
Guest Simon* Report post Posted September 16, 2009 Anyone have any experience, even horror stories about Alfa 156's and 147's? I've been warned to steer very clear of any imported Selespeed models - fair enough but am keen on the manuals anyway. The Twinspark motors seem well regarded
DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2009 Selespeed = timebomb as per Alfa Dealer... the 147 is very small inside... when i was sitting comfortably. i was behind the b piller... The gf found them too cramped
