Brizzill 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2005 (edited) Im looking at Radar Detectors 2 every one says there's is better than the other so i thought ild search on here see wats up......i dont speed much but like someone was sayn before you come 2 a clear streach of road u been following this truck thts been going 70-80kmph then u get 2 the straight and the *cant* speeds up 2 100 so speeds of 120 - 140 may be needed. For those of u anty speeders :gay: u gota sum times. There's a time and place. any way keep the info on detectors rolling in..... cheers Edited April 26, 2005 by Brizzill

rxsumo 33 Report post Posted April 28, 2005 The V1 seems to work just fine for me. However I would take the time to read the NZ Driver Magazine article on Radar Detectors and it might change you ideas if you intend relying on a detector to save your licence. Most of the American reviews on radar detectors generally dont factor on the use of NZ style Ka Band (NZ Speed Cameras and Stalker in car units) Police radar units, so information from Car and Driver and Road and Track shouldnt be taken as factual in NZ conditions. NZ Driver also tested on road rather than Test Tracks. Its real easy to say that one detector will pick up radar at 1.8 km and the next at 1.7km, but from my experience on the road, you very rarely get a situation when you have a section of road that long and you get lucky enough that the cop random blasts all the cars in front of you so that you have warning. The new Stalker units in my experience have a very narrow beam and as a result if the cop is around a corner from you, you will be very lucky to get any indication even though he is zapping a car less than a kilometre away. However that said V1 is very good on Speed Cameras, and on mobile units that have their Radars switched on (not instant on). Article's I have read would tend to indicate that the Lazer Jammers also are fairly effective. Some of the American Domestic Detectors wont pickup Speed Cameras because of their anti false alarm circuits (V1 not affected), I have an Escort for about 2 weeks and gave it back, as I cruised past 2 speed cameras without a single beep. And some information on non Laser Jammers...... To my knowledge there are no jammers that will work with the new Stalker mobile units. I did some research a few years back and actually purchased an Interceptor jammer, these units worked (just) with the Hawk Police Radar, and worked down to about 50 feet. However these units worked by recognising a Police Radar signal, replicating it and before the Police Radar could work out that the signal had been returned and calculating your terminal speed, screwed the signal up so that the Hawk couldnt calculate your speed. The Jammer needed 10-12 milliseconds, to get the signal organised, the Hawk needed 15 milliseconds to get a lock...hence sometimes a "quick" Hawk would beat the jammer. The builders of the Interceptor reckoned that you would need miltary style jammer (and a lead lined suit), to get a jammer to work in under 10 milliseconds....I think the Stalker locks in 5 or so milliseconds...hence you wont find a jammer to block conventional Radar. Hopefully this has been a little useful..... Oh and the reason I speed...... Quite often I go away with a trailer, comes with competing at car shows, and sprint meetings. Up until very recently I had a 80kmh speed limit on the open road....I'm guessing that most of you law abiding citizens really get pissed off with following a trailer at 80kmh for miles on end, with not enough passing lanes and quite often the traffic sequences mean you might get stuck behind me for 5 to 10km. I'm fairly considerate and will keep as left as possible, and allow people to pass where I can but I dont see any reason that I would have to pull over and stop every 5 kms just to let people pass...its not my stupid rule! So I take the easy route and stick between 95-100 to keep within the traffic flow, and keep harmony on the roads, unfortunately the Traffic Taxation department dont quite see it that way, they see a revenue opportunity(at a 80kmh limits that 15-20kmh over....bingo!)....so I take precautions. low_rider 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 speeding is not the problem its driver ability,id gladly travel over the limit with someone i trust and know is a good driver rather than go the limit with alot of the drivers i have seen on the roads
low_rider 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 and it also depends on the car,i mean put it this way would you rather go round a corner at 120 in a m3 with big mags and sticky tyres or at 100 in a holden barina with almost space saver tyres on it
bravo 35 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 Ummm, it might not be my place, but this line of discussion is going nowhere and is totally OT and a total waste of time. Don't go there.
Grant 4 Report post Posted April 29, 2005 This is getting way off topic, and starting to tread on dangerous ground. I am therefore locking it. Cheers Grant
