ED1RTY 2 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 My daily run about as some may know is a 86 Toyota Cressida.. Took it for a wof today and it passed fine but when i went to pick it up and drive it home i noticed it is misfiring really bad. Checked the plugs, leads, distributor, and all electrical connections throughout the engine bay.. Cleaned everything up and put back together.. Its still misfiring and running really crap. Spoke to the indian guy at the shop i take it to and he says that he didn't touch anything that could have caused the problem. Last time i had a similar problem was in the E30 and it ended up being spark plugs but somehow i dont think it is the case with this car. Engine code is 5m-ge and is a 2.8 twin cam inline 6. Any help/pointers/tips appreciated. Ta Chris

Driftit 2080 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) Is it just one cylinder missing/not firing or is it more? Have you tested the spark? When you cleaned the plugs were any of them discolored? Or covered in oil? I killed my ones from hard driving. Ran the Big ends on one and then ran them again on the 2nd and seized the crank. Then went to a 6M. Awesome car and power for a 15 year old. Haha. Edited October 12, 2009 by driftit

Driftit 2080 Report post Posted October 13, 2009 Sounds like she has popped her head gasket. Was going to suggest that as it is a very common problem with the 5M, 6M and 7M's. Just biff another motor in it. Should be able to get them for bugger all. Otherwise put in a 1JZGTE with a W55 and you will have a ton of fun.
