Jamez 2147483647 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Im trying to get a diff out of california in the United States and the cheapest this guy has quoted me is $300 USD to use FEDEX, it weighs about 40KG can anyone suggest a freight company? Is there an american dutchy? Im not that keen to spend more on shipping than the item.
Guest FrantiC Report post Posted October 28, 2009 Ask them to try USPS. From my Experience, USPS is far cheaper than the others. Half the price of what UPS shipping was when I got my MLS headgasket.. I would hapily wait a few extra days to save $100 shipping..

SIR E30 68 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 (edited) ^ Fail - They are useless. I used shipnex.com Edit: DHL will probably get the package when it comes to NZ, but theres nothing you can do about it. If you keep on their back youll be fine. Braeden320 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 We use DHL for all our import/export to the states. Boxes etc usually get to us within 3days of leaving, Appleton,Wisconsin. I guess they are fine with big companys/accounts put maybe not so good with Jo Bloggs?
Sick Puppy 1 Report post Posted October 28, 2009 not that I want to thread hijack, but... since my query is pretty similar... What shipping companies should I use to send stuff to the states? I have a few car bits that I'm looking at sending- nowhere near 40kg, but a fair size (about the size of an engine muffler ). Shipping over there I imagine will be pretty pricey, so what companies would you use? (assuming NZ Post is a no-go price-wise...)
SIR E30 68 Report post Posted October 29, 2009 I think you might be right braeden, took 2 days from LA to auckland and 5 days auckland to hamilton with me on the phone 3-4 times a day asking where it is!
Guest FrantiC Report post Posted October 29, 2009 (edited) Most things I have bought (Megasquirt, injectors, Clutch kit, MLS headgasket) from the states were all through USPS being the cheapest and was about a weeks wait for all of them. Took about 4 5 days to reach NZ, once in customs it was here the next morning, unless I had to pay GST ontop of of it. Looking back, the Clutch kit from GripForce was $99USD shipping, for USPS international priority mail 3-5 days shipping. There is usually a 6-10 non priority option with USPS. Clutch kit isn't as big as a diff though, But it weighed a good 15kg I think.. Edited October 29, 2009 by FrantiC
Grant 4 Report post Posted October 29, 2009 When we moved here, NZ Post was actually the cheapest to ship normal sized packing boxes to the US from NZ. We just shipped two boxes at a time over a period of a month. You just pay by the weight, and was pretty reasonable. Any stuff I have shipped from the US to NZ via USPS has been expensive, Cheers Grant
RvT 9 Report post Posted October 29, 2009 Anything big or heavy US to NZ ... Mainfreight / Kiwishipping (same company). I use them for machinery, tyres, mufflers etc and price is cheapest. I would be guessing $NZ300 for your diff but they can quote you. I get the eBayer to send the goods to CA and they take care of the rest. Brilliant service run by kiwis for kiwis !!! Only issue is that it comes by sea so 6 to 8 week delay. http://www.kiwishipping.co.nz/kiwi-shipping/contact.asp
