camera doctor 25 Report post Posted November 22, 2009 Hi all, Looking to buy a cheap Pop-Top type caravan or Trailer camper ( the tent built onto a trailer sort of thing ) Been watching Trademe, but people seem to be unrealistic re prices, I can buy a brand new Trailer camper from Smiths city for less than 5K and get 30 months to pay, and people are asking 3- 4k for 30 year old pop-tops! Not scared about doing some tiding up, but would prefer the canvas is in OK order. PM me if you have anything cluttering the driveway !!! nath 134 Report post Posted November 22, 2009 Good idea buying one! we have had a topagee 4 berth for about 30 years and just got it re- canvassed last year at around $2k and shes like new again! The canvas is the only part that goes on them, provided the axle/chassis etc isnt rusted and old. camera doctor 25 Report post Posted December 3, 2009 I found one in Dunedin, went down to collect it on Tuesday The 540i pulled it like dream, could hardly tell it was there! Pulled out to pass a truck on a hill, expected sluggish response, but no, it pulled away as if nothing was on the back! Set the trip computer there and back, got 31 MPG on the way down and 22.5MPG on the way back with Pop-Top in tow and AC on ( was not on on way down ) Considering I get a City/Highway Average of 18MPG, I didn't think it was too bad! Temp gauge did not move, which was a relief, as last two cars I towed with got very hot and blackened gearbox oil, even with extra Heavy Duty Coolers!! 39KiwiTouring 2 Report post Posted December 3, 2009 I would of been keen but I tow with my 2.8L a 1200kg caravan and it"s not to bad, just use the steppy to change into 5th as it will stay in 4th at 100k doing 3200rpm, but I see what you mean you need the bubble but for space when camping, get a touring 540i ultimate then.
