Car Idling Wrong

Recommended Posts

Regardless if the car is warm or cold, idle is pulsing between 2-2.5k revs. It's not consistently happening but it's becoming more and more common now.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

Atta, give your idle control valve (ICV) a clean out and make sure you hear the valve opening and closing as you tilt it from side to side.

You should be able to hear it buzzing when you turn the car on before starting.

Here's a link to some M20 idle info, might not be 100% relevant to your engine but nevertheless quite helpful:

P.S if your not already a member I highly recommend signing up - some good E30 info there..

Sorry - but does anyone do a search for posts on idle issues before posting a question? Seems to be the most commonly asked question on the board :-)

2.5k ? At that high you must have a vacuum hose loose or a massive crack in the intake boot or something?

Have you checked / replaced the hoses? Brake booster hose?

Sorry but the search on these forums is pretty average to say the least!

But yes, I admit that I did not even attempt it.
