Forrest 35 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 (edited) So I have just had a bunch of rust repairs done in the floor of my E30. I want to A. use a paint to seal all the repairs in (even though body deadener has already been used and B. I am probably never putting the carpet back in so I need something that will be hard wearing and even textured and even better if it can be brushed on because masking wiring etc FTL. Anyone have any recommendations? Cheers, Nathan Edited January 17, 2010 by Forrest
DRTDVL 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 textured you could add sand into the paint but i wouldn't recommend it... and why if your putting carpet back in. You could look at something like por 15 otherwise
Forrest 35 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 ^ Cheers Heath, so any kind of quality enamel type paint would be fine?
MLM 57 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 textured you could add sand into the paint but i wouldn't recommend it... and why if your putting carpet back in. You could look at something like por 15 otherwise +1 POR 15 is good stuff. I have used it on a cobra chassis before and worked very well. The finish is very hard and would wear well, can be brushed on. I think it bonds chemically with the metal as it says on the tin that it light surface rust is ok to paint over which saves any priming and cleaning. Check first though could be wrong on the last bit.
Forrest 35 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 Is POR15 in a gold plated tin? I heard it was hella expensive? haha

Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 You can also use Wattyl SPEE epoxy if you are doing it on the cheap. Costs under $50 a litre which will be plenty. Add silica sand to it to make it textured, but that will just make it get really dirty, really fast and probably start rubbing away. Etch prime anything that is bare metal otherwise it WILL peel in less than a year.
Forrest 35 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Is the Wattyl stuff at Mitre 10 Ashkan ? But seriously, where could I find that? at $50 a litre that is pretty choice. Want to do the entire floor and the boot. Probably can the textured idea I think.
