m_power 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Im looking at buying a 1993 E34 530i with the V8. What is there to look out for when buying E34's? Are the engines good? what are there common problems? I heard that they have a over heating problem-is this true? Cheers, Beau
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 any car can have a overheating problem , if the water pump fails , thermostat jams shut or a leak in the radiator or a pipe etc . the 530i is about the same as a 540i , probably less problems with the auto trans than the 540i due to the extra power of the bigger v8 . check out www.bmwe34.net etc
kiwi535 538 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 if maintained BMW engines are reliable as.E34 have well known problems.heater valves, front suspension shimmy, door stays, door cards delaminate, head liner seperate, wiring to boot.Prolly more too but thats all for now.Dont be put off by the lists you find.Make sure all electrics work, and get it checked by someone who knows their old skool BMWs.Dont forget you are looking at 20 odd year old cars that had their designs started 25 odd years ago.
