str8_6 275 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Evening all, Getting the fan clutch replaced in a few days as the car is running hot in traffic, fine when on the move. Noticed a couple of times in recently warm weather after switching the car off and coming back (say 2-5 mins later) the temp gauge reads 3/4 and moves back down to normal (half way) once started. My e34 M50 used to do the same on really warm days and I was told it was "normal..." Does anyone else experience this. I'm hoping the new fan clutch will help or sort it since the temp is erratic at the moment anyway. Could there be air in the system? SIR E30 68 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Its because the water pump stops turning when you shut down the motor and the water inside gets nice and toasty, when you turn it over again it starts up the cooling system and brings the cooler water back around.
