E30 manual conversion

Recommended Posts

I'm going to start converting my m20 e30 to manual this weekend. Did a different one a couple of months ago so its pretty fresh in my mind.

If anyone wants any pictures of parts of the process or has any questions etc let me know.

Thats all :)

Always keen for more stuff in the write ups / FAQ section. Go nuts with the camera (remember macro mode <_< )

Righto.

I'm going to be doing an m20b25 rebuild soon too (not the touring motor btw), maybe with 2.7. Watch this space!

Woohoo do love a good 2.7!

Don't stop there, keep going and try for 3.1 or so like Andy's racecar. That's one seriously quick M20!

Go for the M20 2.8 Max as we discussed today... I'll help you with it

Ok ok yes after a good long chat with G-banger today I think 2.8 is more likely.

WHO BOUGHT DANS 2.8 CONVERSION KIT?

Oh and I visited Bob at Balancing specialists, going to go for around 7kgs on the flywheel for the touring (which is staying 2.5)

M30b35s are harder and expensiver! I'm rubbish at making bits of metal into different shapes of bits of metal etc

Still not finished, uni and lack of tools keeps getting in the way! Hope to have it finished on Tues. I've taken a couple of random photos but not much. I'll do a little write up later but in the mean time just pm me any questions.

Make sure you have 25 inches of extension to get at the bellhousing bolts, a torque wrench and torx sockets - e10, e12 and e14 are what I've had to use.

@Ari - yep. See my showroom thread for shiny stuff. How light did you go?

I second the extension comment, you can never have enough.

I just managed to strip the clutch cover bolts even though I had the correct torx tool.. Grr..

I had to go buy a heap of Extensions, and I was a few inches too short... Thankfully my Sisters Boyfriends dad had some <.<

Then I got her boyfriend all oily and she moaned ;D

+1 on the 2.8 Swap, saw a video of one on youtube... went very well :D

Teng do a 20 inch 3/8th drive extension. I bought one from AES on Friday and I've used it heaps over the weekend, its also good for getting at the top nut on engine mounts, getting at thee pedal box bolts, using as a breaker bar with a universal. Love it

Connecting up a whole bunch of extensions gets too flexy aye.

Yeah, it was quite annoying had to tape them up to get them as stiff as possible.

Im not taking it on for a couple more weeks gotta wait for the new motor for the car to arrive and for the car itself lol But will be connecting the motor and box outside of the car which should make life a bit easier for me I would assume
