sascha 17 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 Hi all, my dads e46 318i touring has recently started displaying the yellow oil light for around 10-15 secs after starting the car. He said hes topped up the oil and googled it and still not found the problem. Is this a common problem? is there a faulty sensor somewhere? I had a quick look through the forum but couldnt find anything. any ideas? Cheers

sascha 17 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 oil level sensor is real common for failure. Would that cause it to just come on for ~15 secs each time? Wouldnt it mean that it comes on randomly? And whats it mean when the light is yellow as opposed to red? So many questions, sorry!

pureboiracer 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 yellow means oil level and red means oil pressure. mabey the sensor is sticking and taking a while to read correctly.
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 Will need a new sensor as Kerry said. Waste of time cleaning them... they fail
