Dead speedo

Recommended Posts

I havent had a working speedo since over a year ago. It all started when I swapped out the open center for an LSD center in my 3.64 medium case diff. It started spastically floating around (the needle on the speedo) and eventually one day died off..

Ever since then I have tried:

Checked speedo ring is still on the diff center.

3 or 4 different diff speed sensors.

2 clusters.

checked wiring and its sweet.

I am thinking it's possible that the cluster i replaced it with was a dud?

Otherwise , everything except the diff itself has been replaced and it's still a no go. I have a 4.45 diff i'm borrowing and may throw that in tomorrow to see if that works but other than that WTF could be up? Anyone got a cheap 100% garunteed working speedo I can check it out with/?

Or anyone know a way to test if the speedo is working on a cluster, if so how?

Just checked if it pulses and my diff doesn't pulse at all, when joined to the multieter it is just a 'beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep'

I checked with 2 other diffs I have here and they both go beeep...beeep...beeep when spun.

Why would my diff be like that ?? FYI the speedring IS on the diff center.

Ok I pulled the rear cover off, and the sensor and ring work - Thing is, the sensor is sitting too far from it. I'm pretty sure I used the speed ring that came with the LSD center too so maybe it was from a different diff or something ?

Rangi fixed it by grinding the sensor face down so it sits furhur in and now it pulses, so going back in the car hopefully it works lol.
