speedyg 16 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 Hi, just wondering what other people are running in their E39's? Workshop manual recommends BMW oil only, but surely Castrol makes something suitable? 0w-40 or 5w-30?
my_e36 43 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 You actually need to look for an oil that meet BMW LL01 (Long-Life 01) specifications. You'll find this info on the back of the engine oil packaging or you can call technical helpline for the brand of the oil that you are interested in to confirm. Couple of the oil springs to mine, Shell Helix Ultra (silver bottle), Mobil 1. There are oils that fits LL01 but at several viscosity level. You'll probably find 5W30 is a bit cheaper than 0W40 though.
