need help/ tips for removing m20 engine

hey guys my current b20 engine in my e30 recently shat itself and i currently have a b25 sitting at home in my garage. just wondering if anyone can give me some tips or instructions on how to remove old engine and put in new engine

have done a google search but have found nothing...

so thought i would ask on here

With respect - if you have no idea then probably best to get someone who has to either do the job for you or help

Installation is the reverse of removal.

If you want to do it yourself, at least buy a manual, the Haynes version has plenty of pointers on how to pull them out, if you own a E30 you will need one often anyway. You will need a engine crane or alternatively a double braced cross beam in a garage and a endless chain if you want to do it safely, otherwise there are plenty of other 'rangi' ways to do actually pull one out.

If you don't want to buy the manual, google can find you a copied PDF version....

Do some more research before you go any further.

I can help you here, i did this about a month ago.

First tip for ya,

Dont even bother trying to remove the gearbox from the engine in the car

Ask more specific questions though, and go and buy yourself a Haynes manual...

Yea did the removing bit a couple of weeks ago with no reading or anything, I'd say its pretty straightforward.

Unplug all the sensors you can see.

Remove the ground straps (there is one on the passenger side of the sump and sometimes one somewhere else iirc).

Drain all the coolant from the block by removing the plug under the exhaust manifold

Disconnect driveshaft from gearbox

Disconnect clutch fluid line from slave cyl if its manual

Disconnect reverse light wires

Disconnect shifter

Unbolt gearbox crossmember

Remove fan

Disconnect fuel lines

Disconnect all coolant hoses - dont forget the ones to the heater at the back of the motor.

Disconnect throttle cable

Unbolt exhaust

etc?

Two people is pretty much a must.

Quick tip, unbolting the slave cylinder means you dont need to bleed it later... However mine got destroyed in the process, so if you do this be very careful around the clutch pedal!!
