keen 6 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 Is it possible to take the tie rods off without damaging the tie rod rubber seal? I have a fork type tool to take the tie rod off but I can see that there is likely to be damage to the rubber seal.the tie rod was replaced about 1 year ago ans a stone or rock has split the steering boot and it looks like a complete steering arm off.any wise or easy shortcuts to this operation? a little help here would be muchly appreciated
hotwire 352 Report post Posted May 1, 2010 I do it with an FBH (....en big hammer) & a drift. Give the pin housing a decent whack or two crack the joint loose. Can do with just the hammer BUT be accurate & leave the nut on loosely to protect incase you miss
