deeveus 81 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 These guys finally got back to me. They sent me the unit for the upgrade pictured. All I had to do was plug it in, it read the ECU and other things? plug it into my PC, upload the data to that, it onsent it to England then this morning I have an email stating that the re-program is complete, upload that data to the module, plug it into the truck and it was done. Pretty easy all in all. I can say that from a foot flat start it's made a massive difference, beforehand when I booted it it threw you back in your seat but the power kinda died after 3000rpm, now though it keeps pulling up to the red line. After that it's history, I timed it to be doing just over 7 seconds to 100kph also after that it just keeps howling along. It's made some pretty decent differences, torque is available more through the rev's aswell. All in all it's win.
Apex 693 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 They claim a 45bhp and a massive 97nm increase so I wouldn’t be surprised you noticed the difference. Joys of Turbo cars. Best part is you can take it back to stock whenever you want. I would take it easy on the launches though as an extra 97nm may be pushing things towards the threshold of your driveline components. I asked them about this and they just said all they do is remove the emissions limitations of the engine and tweak settings. They also said that they've had no direct results of failures owed to the upgrades. Apparently the upgrade is un-detectable to the dealerships and will not void warranties, hell, my dealership even recommended it to me! But yeah, it is seriously uncomfortable having your foot flat every time off the mark because it throws you back quite violently.
Apex 693 Report post Posted May 13, 2010 I don’t doubt that, im just saying take it easy on the launches is all, a car has factory parameters for a reason, don’t believe that near 100nm came from just emissions detune liberation, most would come from an increase in turbo boost and timing. I have seen stock components sh*t the bed when given a dollop of extra torque, especially when you have big tyres and awd, something has to give. Yeah fair enough mate, the car is rock solid at the moment, no signs of giving out anywhere, if it does it's under warranty. I've been told these things are fairly bulletproof and the dealership said that they had done dozens of these X5's with little to no issues.
