Vinyl vs. Paint - e46 exterior trim!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have been looking at changing the exterior trim colour on my e46 sedan (chrome strips) which have weathered, like most bmw's. A bit of research has proven that it can be quite difficult to either remove the trim to paint it OR to get the vinyl on consistently.

Has anyone vinyled thiers or painted it? If so, how much success did you have and what sort of costs are involved?

I think i would be leaning more towards getting a company to apply to vinyl to ensure it looks the best. Does anyone have any ideas on costs?

Cheers,

Rick.

PM Shelley (M325i ?) if you want it done professionally.

I've done both Vinly and Paint on my car myself. Easy.

Vinyl ~ $15

Paint ~ $20

Although I'm not sure how hard it is to remove E46 trim.

EDIT: If you think you may or a potential buyer might want to have chromwe trim in the future, vinyl.

Thanks, Done!

Ive heard its quite hard to remove the trip without bending it - hence thinking of vinyl option. And your right re resale, vinyl is easier to remove and the old finish would be protected (rather than sanded for paint). =D
