shaneg 0 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 So, im sure most people have heard about this too.. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/ www.tvnz.co.nz Personally i dont see the point, ive never seen much trouble that late at night, unless its around new years down at the viaduct and people are all waiting for taxis etc outside that start mart eating subway and getting lippy. Being in hospo for the last 11 years i never used to go out till after 1, as i wouldnt finish work till 11/12. And even now, im studying this year so might make it out once a month, im out till 6/7 when i do go out, most idiots cant last the distance till 3 anyway and are too hammered to get past the bouncers so why have the bars close at 4? The only places to go after 5 anyway are D-bar, the supper club, and spy bar.. Ive had many 8am supper club morings.. then on to femme fatale for more drinks, as if you say you are gonna have a "massage" you are allowed to drink at their bar for about an hour, then a few bars start opening about 10. Lock-ins at Suite bar and Cartel are always good too. I could see the reasoning if people were getting beaten up or heaps of drunk c@nts were roaming around at that time but there arent.. Grant 4 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 I don't see the point either I must admit. The world, and even New Zealand now runs 24 hours a day, so therefore there should be amenities to cater for this. When I lived in St Benedicts Street in Auckland, the pub on the corner to Khyber Pass Road and Upper Symonds was open 24 hours a day. It would often be busy at 6am, 7am or 8am when I was going past. Also when our oldest son was a very young baby he would wake up at between 5 and 6, I'd often let my wife get some sleep and take him out for a walk in his stroller. We would always go the length of K Road, and a lot of the bars were still open and there was never any trouble that I saw. Walking K Road at that time of the morning was always good fun. Pushing a baby got a lot of attention from the hookers who used to fuss over Ash and rush up to come and see him in the stroller.
cliffdunedin 8 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 I don't think it's that bad an idea, in the UK bars all close from anywhere from 11pm-4am with the exception of a very few and no-one really complains...i'd bet (like the age limit change) that if the laws had not been relaxed several years ago for 24hr licenses, that anyone would care if bars were still being made to close at 4am. Gaz 1060 Report post Posted August 25, 2010 This is pretty much in place here in Chch at the moment as there's a one way door at 3am and most places close at 4 because there's no point in staying open if people can't come in to spend more on drinks. You go for a walk around at that time and the place is a mess. It puts extra stress on the fast food places as they are all within 20m of each, there are lines for taxis because they can't keep up with the influx of people leaving some people stranded for up to an hour. There are more chances of seeing a fight in Kfry than in a bar cuz people get annoyed at waiting in line.
shaneg 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 Think thats the Edinburgh Castle? that has pokies in there thats why thats open. Casinos will still be allowed to stay open as 24 hour gambling is fine in some peoples eyes.. Yeah thats what one bar owner was suggesting that the amount of people trying to get a cab at the same time could lead to trouble.. especially on k road. All these bars that are open that late have bouncers, so its not the bars that are having problems. I just dont see it as a problem so why change it? not many bars have the 24hr licence anyway.. mainly underground or places that are away from residential areas.
