rookie 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2010 So i do quite a bit of boarding in the snow season and was getting sick of putting the boards in the boot / backseat. We invested in a set of racks and a board attachement for a recent trip to the snow (bloody storm meant we got no boarding in over 6 days grr). Note it doesnt stay like this when im back in auckland, they come back off for the daily commute . Personally didnt like the look with racks on at first but its starting to grow on me! What are your thoughts..? Bad phone pic i know!
Lucan 196 Report post Posted September 29, 2010 Cool that you actually use them. Notice a difference in gas mileage? (excuse the mericaness)
Dr. M 10 Report post Posted September 29, 2010 ^ Like, especially as I dislike a moldy, skanky smelling interior. I ride heaps too. Where did you get em from?
gouba 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2010 Tidy, I havent taken my car to the mountain yet but i have racks for when I do How do you find it getting up the mountain (that road is terrible and full of potholes)
rookie 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2010 Notice a difference in gas mileage? (excuse the mericaness) The difference was about 10% i think. With just the bare racks i lost about 60km's from a 600km tank of gas? ^ Like, especially as I dislike a moldy, skanky smelling interior. I ride heaps too. Where did you get em from? So true about the interior. The racks where from trademe, a guy up in whangarei sold them too me for $130 shipped brand new - They are 300+ i think in the shops. The snowboard attachement (carries 4 boards) was $290. Some may say a heavy investment but well worth protecting my interior i think - and saves room for more gear. We managed to fit 3 people, 4 boards, gear for each person for a week, snow gear, and food in the E46 and it was still just as comfortable. Tidy, I havent taken my car to the mountain yet but i have racks for when I do How do you find it getting up the mountain (that road is terrible and full of potholes) To be honest, the pot holes through national park and on the way to Kune are the worst ath the moment! Wow there is one stretch thatis exceptionally bad! I was sure i was going to get a flat, tried to avoid as many as possible. Getting up the mountain was sweet, but we couldnt get chains on the rear as the car was fully loaded the day we went up, hopping out didnt raise it enough. May need to invest in a standard e46 set for the rear to fit chains too?
blk320i 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2010 May need to invest in a standard e46 set for the rear to fit chains too? True that, best idea to get round things. the amount of cars we had trying to get up Hutt with low profiles and 'sacked out sick azz carz bro' was rediculous. The proper hire chains available rely on sidwalls to stay on the car, if they do not fit properly they will either fling off the outside or in most instances they peel off to the inside and wrap around the axle and can take out brake lines! Alot of people tend to buy easyfit (plastic) type chains and just turn up in the carpark and try and put them on with out looking at them or trying them on prior, then find themselves in trouble less than 1km up the road. Then i used to have to spend time every chain day cruising down in the truck to fix, cut, replace chains. All in good fun though when you know what your doing, people are usually stoked to get moving again.

Wow there is one stretch thatis exceptionally bad! Goldfinch street in Ohakune has to be one of the worst in the country. My bog standard car bottoms out just cruising at 50ks with only 2 people.
