Why wont my indicator return?

I replaced the indicator unit on my e30 coupe today as my old one was pretty shot through.

Anyways the unit looked in good condition but it still doenst return after I have completed a turn.

Is there some particular way that it should have been installed? Is there a particular way the plastic tab should have been set initially?

Has the steering wheel still got the bakelite striker peg in place?

Take the wheel back off & check for the black bakelite rim that has a peg protruding - this is the striker to cancel the switch. It may be broken off.

Anyone have a photo of what this looks like? If it is broken off i'd like to replace it

I think mine is broken off or half worn down as mine only flicks back 30% of the time. I just have a habit of flicking it off myself.

It has the ring and the black plastic tab, maybe it is worn down then?

They don't wear down but break if the wheel is mishandled while off.

As I said - take the wheel back off & check - it is pretty obvious as to how it works once you look at it
