Recommended Posts

none of those lol, you'll find the video module behind that large bulge of carpet in the boot on the drivers side

look for the blue plug ..

It should have two diversity aerial 'pigtails' coming out of it too.

Your photos clearly show a Japanese market E39

the two bulges behind the rear seat are:

Left-hand = radio tuner

Right-hand = TV tuner

i also see telephone pre-wiring fitted.

Ok, thanks guys. Found it. Doesn't look very accessible. I spose it will have to be removed to do anything with? Also easy to remove the jap nav on the roof on the boot? Very annoying :\

Access to VM is easy - remove the whole boot liner as one - a few clips either side & slide the whole thing out.

Jap nav unit - just remove it (& unplug the wiring to it) - rest of vehicle will still fully function without it.

Otherwise - convert it to Euro system to have NZ nav.

Ok thanks. Also you know the aerial thing on the rear window near the roof?

Posted Image

Possible to ditch it? Possibly get an aerial somewhere else more discreet?

EDIT:

It's just that lump, no wire or anything so I spose previous owner gave it the chop?

Excellent. Will remove tomorrow morning :)

Edit: any suggestions on removal?

Edit edit: my research suggests this is an antenna for cell?

video module is easy to remove as hotwire said.

nav unbolts from roof of boot, then unplugs. The TV tuner will take over generating the graphics when nav is removed, and will work after next cold boot of car.

or replace jap nav with euro nav and you have fully functional gps navigation in NZ

Thanks Jochen, I'll have a look of taking it off now.

Note:

Removed the phone antenna very easily. Never going to use it in future but kept it just in case. Came off without any trouble, outside was on with 3M, made gummy by the sun and the inside peeled off.

EDIT:

Jochen, unit's out. What do I do with all the wires on the roof going into the side?

Trace them back to their source plugs behind the trim & disconnect - they can all come out. GPS lead - just coil up & tuck behind the trim. Refit the boot light from the nav compartment into the factory slot in the boot roof above.

One of the plugs goes into the Jap VICS unit - this unit too can be removed but if you do - plug the two aerial leads together

Cheers Hotwire/Jochen

Sorted it now. Coiled up the wires and put in where the CD stacker is. Very tidy :)

Thanks.
