e30 325i Inspektion ][

Recommended Posts

1990 BMW 325i, manual, 204000 on the clock - needs oil change, filter etc.

Thought I would start (another) oil war. What is the best oil for summer, for an engine with kms like that?

My mechanic uses "Elf Supersporti 15w40" in my car and it has similar k's.

Glenn (Botany Motorworx) also recommends Elf lubricants I believe.

I use castrol magnatec 10w40, mine has 200 000Miles on the clock, and it doesn't burn much unless you ring the sh*t out of it

Interesting....looking around the international sites, people use 15/40 or 20/50 weight for summer months. Some say that 10w is too thin and causes a bit of oil usage when you rev them out.

I'm using Valvoline VR-1 10w40

I'd have used Elf, but I can't really find it here when I want it.

the only oil it uses, is the oil it leaks hahah.

Haha, I had a few of those "leak" thingies too!! Took off the lower clutch housing and found 2 sump bolts rolling around - and the rest of the sump bolts were near finger tight. Sorted now! Little less oil on the driveway now.

Right, car sorted for now. 20/50 oil, new filter, coolant, air filter, plugs and checked out heaps of bits and pieces. Good day for it!
