e38 mass airflow meter problem maybe?

hi everyone

was wondering if any one can shed some light on my problem

i am guessing my air flow meter is not working properly

i had an accident couple of weeks ago and since then, (front impact) the car idles quiet rough some time and i think the fuel consumption has increased as well

i was reading on the net and got the impression that these are the symptoms of a air flow meter problem, the car also hesitates at the lower revs, spesially when you push the pedal hard from stop

what is the best way to test an airflow meter?
