m30 3.0 to 3.5 swap

Recommended Posts

So iv been offered a 3.5 motor from an old 635 and im pretty sure its the same as the 3.0 m30 motor in my 88 530 my question im throwing out there is

1. is the loom the same for the 3.5 e34 as the 3.0?

2. will my 5 speed bolt up to the 3.5 ...bolt spacing and all that?

3. what computer should i use? the one from the 635? my 530 one? or should i just go get one from a 535?

any advice with this would be awesome.

the old 635csi block doesn't have some mouting points on the block to mate up to your e34 engine mounts , so you will need to do some welding /fabricating etc, just the exhaust side i think .

yes use all the e34 manifolds ,brackets , front hub ,wiring loom etc etc and just get a ecu from a e32 735i or e34 535i (can help with that if needed)

the old 635csi engine ran a 10:1 compression ratio so a remap of the ecu will get the best out of that engine , otherwise you might get pinking etc .

yes the same gearbox will fit to it with no problems .

you will need to use the e34 sump and oil pick up etc.
