anyone able to flash/modify the computer?

Recommended Posts

My cars running aftermarket projector headlights with HID 35W kit replacing the standard 55W halogens

Been working fine, i installed some tiny LEDs replacing halogens which were acting as the daytime lights

now its throwing bulbout errors, based on what I've read / spoken to others, because the LEDs draw less power

Im sure its like less than 5watts difference cause those things are TINY

anyway is anyone able to change the computer settings so it accepts the new power level & stops throwing errors?

hey man im in north shore, auckland forgot to mention

re: resistors I'm sort of keen to reflash rather than add resistors,

failing that I was considering another option which was adding some more LEDs on the bumper as additional daytime lights

which would hopefully increase the power consumption to the same/beyond the level it was with halogens & hopefully cancel the errors also

lol yeah darn I noticed the Timaru in your profile haha

So you're confident it can be done then?

Easy job?

Btw I saw a post on an international forum about a guy in Germany who does custom coding,

like adding an option to show actual velocity in the dash electronically

you do things like that too / know anyone who can?

Yes the bulb error is easily removed with software called Navcoder, written by BSport member Jochen.

It does not have the custom speed display feature though - I guess that involves some coding to read the speed from the speedo sensor and writing it to the MID - similar to what the DICE iPod interface does.

If you are keen, you can get a copy of Navcoder and build or buy the necesary interface and do it yourself

mad fun

hey question though, IBUS port that navcoder refers to,

is that the same as the OBD2 port which my car supposedly uses?

Its a 2009 Year car

IBUS = OBD2?

No - the ibus is only for some units, mainly entertainment and dash

OBD2 port is more for diagnostics and reading and resetting of engine ECU errors etc - Navcoder is not that type of software, for OBD2 you need a GT1 or clone system.

Oh right I see

Is it possible to reset / recode via OBD2?

of course

that's the whole point of obd2: it's the diagnostic interface to allow to to recode the car and diagnose the car

yea sorry mate still a bit new to it

done the research and yea I see now that it is certainly possible to do almost anything with the OBD2 port

The main things I have read on other forums of people doing with it

- disable seatbelt light/sound

- recode lights for new LEDs

- add electronic speed to dashboard

- enable certain features previously disabled

now if I can just find someone who is able to do this!

no luck so far, no reply from josh (hybrid)

bump

still looking for someone who can do this

Currently in talks with Tom(M3_Power), though he's never done it before so trying to contact the german overseas who does this to try and get info on how to do it to pass onto Tom

Does *anyone* else have any info or know anyone in auckland who might be able to do this

It most certainly is possible as seen below

I'm currently in Auckland.

Whilst I have my software here, I didn't bring an interface woth me

Any standard OBDII KKL interface with a USB connector will work.

As for getting digital speed display on the dashboard, that is available as a standard diagnostic function on most BMW instrument clusters. No coding required.

Any turning off lamp warnings is easy, although my notes for that are at home (I need my notes if the car is a facelift E46)

Awesome well the car is a 2009 e82 135i coupe

M3 Power has an OBDII cable, would we be able to arrange something between the 3 of us?

I'd be happy to chip in with beers/bling whichever takes your fancy

heres the response i got from the car-coding.de guy

For your car you need at least a D-CAN OBD interface (for cars from 03/2007).

Concerning Software:

We will not distribute our own software because it was a huge effort to develop it and it is actually the basis of our buisness.

On some websites one can find software called NSC Expert and EDIABAS.

In conjunction with current coding data these tools are capable of doing the desired coding

so yea as per M3_Power, d-can

m3 is your obdII cable D-CAN???

jochen do you know how to use NCS Expert? I have a vague idea but have never actually used it.

Also I am suspecting that this will require both NCS and EDIABAS to work (one to recode and one to reset) Or perhaps EDIABAS can simply turn the bulb test off on its own??

Do you know if EDIABAS version 6.4.7 is used or 5.0.2?

fatjoe ... I've told you many times I have D-CAN and OBDII KKL - cable don't worry I have what's needed and most likely the software also but I just don't actually know which one is used and what function. If it's a recode I don't want to risk bricking your module (very easily done and you'll be a couple of thousand dollars down the drain if this happens).

big ups to M3_Power

was over at his place for a few hours today

very iffy software this NCS Expert

apparently only 1 bmw technician in NZ knows how to use it lol

ah well anyway long story short we fiddled around a bit and finally managed to read the ECU values from the car for the specific modules and disable one of the Bulb tests (hopefully the right one lol) and also managed to enable the digital speedo you can see in the previous page of this thread

sooo yea alls well that ends well!

will post back tomorrow when i do a cold start!

thanks again to M3_Power, Hybrid and everyone else who helped along the way

okey dokey then coldstart still sending bulb errors so I'm guessing the 1 sensor we disabled wasn't it

no biggy

The german guy who does this as a service helped me out with the correct sensors to disable for headlights

WARMUEBERWACHUNG_AL - warmtest low beam

WARMUEBERWACHUNG_BLK_V - warmtest flash/turn signal front

WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_V - warmtest park light

WARMCHECK_E89_FL__E7X_NSW

KALTUEBERWACHUNG_AL - coldtest low beam

KALTUEBERWACHUNG_BLK_V - coldtest flash/turn signal front

KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_V - coldtest park light

KALTCHECK_E89_FL__E7X_NSW

CC_MELDUNG_AL - notification lowbeam

CC_MELDUNG_BLK_V - notification flash/turn signal front

CC_MELDUNG_FL - notification park light

CC_MELDUNG_SL_V - notification park light

GUIDE

AL = Abblendlicht = low beam (front)

FL = Fernlicht = high beam (front)

SL_V = Standlicht vorn = parking light front

BLK_V = Blinker vorn = turn indicators front

keep ya'll posted

Seeing fatjoe hasn't updated this I thought I might.

We've successfully coded his module to not to cold start bulb check via NCS Expert (pretty cool tool actually once you get the hang of it).

So everything all hunky dory for his 135i.
