Radiator Flush

Recommended Posts

ONe of the worst things about buying a used car, is you never know how much maintaining the previous owner has done.

So decided i'm gonna do a radiator flush on my E34. (yay!)

Been doing a little research and most places seem to recommend using BMW brand coolant, as it's specially designed for use with BMW's, and anything else will probably damage your engine. :banghead:

First of all, is this true? What kind of coolant do you guys use?

And if BMW coolant is the way to go, where on earth can i get some from?

Thanks all,

Jordan

agreed with the previous maintainence.....ask me how i know

use a generic coolant......doesnt make a difference

50/50 coolant water

if your dead set on using BMW coolant, go to your local dealer, they have it there

We use prestone where i work but when i did the radiator in my e34 i used 2 litres of bmw coolant its not very expensive and is nice and blue

Any bmw agent will have it.

I find aftermarket coolant smells stronger and seems to build up fuzzy around pipe fittings and anywhere there is the slightest weep.

In saying that we dont have trouble with cars at work so its up to you.

the main thing is to renew it every two years! The distilled water and BMW coolant is a wee bit over the top(untiel we blow a headgasket eh sparkle?)
