E46 Coolant Warning Light

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I recently sold my E36 320i and now looking at getting a e46. Looked at a e46 318i (just gna get b a daily driver) which was quite tidy except the coolant light was on. I've read on the internet that it could be mainly 2 things.

1. either coolant level is low.

2. sensor in the expansion tank could be faulty.

it didn't appear to be leaking any coolant but is there any other main things it could be? also is it a expensive fix?

Cheers

1.) Check coolant, is it infact low? If not low, derp, sensor.

2.) If it is low, then the sensor is working fine, and need to find where it is leaking from / into.

3.) ????

4.) Profit!

Get a leak down test done before you buy it for piece of mind. Fill coolant expansion tank to see if light goes out, the seller should really sort this sort of thing before listing?
