E30 headlight problems

Recommended Posts

Spent all day Sunday working on the electrics of the car with Ray Chubb. Got everything working but today I've noticed that the passenger park light works fine but its headlight or high beam doesn't now....

Its not the bulb as I tried the bulb from the working light?

Any ideas.

Jack, Are you saying neither beam work or just high?

If only high - sounds like no power to bulb - Check fuses for a start

Ill try explain real in detail, as best I can.

The far passenger side circular light only works on the first click of the little light controlling knob. When the knob is pulling up the whole way it turns off, same scenario with high beam.

Fuses looked fine

Sooo, you have absolutely NO lights glowing (LHS) when headlights are turned on? And only park when on park position?

If so - check for power at light wiring - if so - it will have lost it's earth

Check the wire connection between the headlight wire and the harness, also the plugs into the back of the headlight.

If you've been pulling them out a lot they'll get loose and the connection will break, I know from experience <_<

I chopped up a spare harness and rewired hah, there's probably a simpler solution though. Check with a multimeter where the break is, strip the wire and reconnect perhaps??
