Experience needed on oil leak on e36

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. Well my car has developed an oil leak… it’s a 92 m50 325i.

It seems to be leaking from around the oil filter housing?? Is there any common oil leak places I should be looking at?

Its hard to pin-point the leak because oil has travelled all over the side of the block and onto the sump, steering rack etc. Is it much of a mission to remove the oil filter housing?

I know my description is vague, I will try get a picture when the sun comes out.

Cheers

Niroy

Have got some pictures now. Im pretty sure that it is leaking from the housing, almost looks like its leaking from around the rear gasket or just below the oil pressure sensor.

Hi Brent, I have noticed that the oil filter housing on a vanos engine is different to a non-vanos. They seem to have issues with o-rings which is located around the vanos banjo.

The diagrams show a difference
