dubman 39 Report post Posted May 31, 2011 i noticed a faint "whurring" noise coming from the front of the car. its more noticeable after 40k's. Is this the wheel bearing or simply tire noise(~3mm of tread left)? when i jerk to the left or right, the sound disappears, then reappears after the wheel's straightened out. my_e36 43 Report post Posted June 2, 2011 Instead of jerking, try take a long sweeper in both direction. (South Eastern is great for this). Alternatively, jack the car up, grab the wheel by top and bottom and rock. If it has any play, then wheel bearing is likely in trouble. Also, rotate the wheel and hear for any scrap/rough noise when it spin, which also indicate the same thing.
zenetti 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2011 Sounds like a wheel bearing, had the same thing..... I would actually say it is a scalloped tyre.
