nickchin1308 0 Report post Posted August 14, 2011 Today I realised, the rear driver side wheel has started making a screeching sound (as if a stone is scratching something). The sound can only be heard if the windows are down and when driving at parking speeds. Looked at the wheel and brake area roughly and everything looks okay but I am no expert. Anyone had this problem before and know how to solve this?
hotwire 352 Report post Posted August 14, 2011 Bound to be a stone wedged between the disc & backing plate. Otherwise - worn /low pad - the low pad sensors are on L/H front & R/H rear

No low brake pad level indicator has appeared on the OBC yet tho.
hotwire 352 Report post Posted August 14, 2011 Not wrong on the stone problem being common in E39's - when running on 18's anyway. Always been the fronts on ours & nearly always has involved removing the wheel to fix!
BreakMyWindow 1874 Report post Posted August 16, 2011 Have had a few stones wedged in between the disc and backing plate over the years with my e39's. I usually just give the backing a plate a smack on it's backside with my hand and it seems to loosen the offending stone.
