ahebron 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2005 My 1992 model 525 E34 has a clonky rear propshaft coupling. Unfortunately for me I purchased a NZ new car thinking part supply would not be a problem.....HA! The wreckers appear to wreck Jap imports which do not come with the ZF auto, they tell me thats a rare g/box! Does anyone know the length of the ZF auto propshaft, if the rear coupling can be replaced or if the rear section is all I need to replace? Thanks Adrian
vonripsnorter 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2005 (edited) are you sure its the rear coupling as 9 times out of ten, its the front that plays up infact I have only ever seen one e34 with a rear joint problem & if so, you can get the universal rebuilt, some one like BNT or a drive line specialist will help here but do check that the fault first Edited June 21, 2005 by vonripsnorter
JasonZE 0 Report post Posted June 26, 2005 I have an e34 525 import with zf tranz so they are about. As above check the rubber coupler at the front of the shaft if thats ok and the rear is faulty then get the joint replaced at a driveshaft specialist (circle track engineering) in christchurch otherwise check yellow pages Even if bmw could supply you parts it would most likely be a complete shaft and cost a couple of grand!!!!! Carl 3 Report post Posted June 26, 2005 Aren't all E30 and E34 auto boxes ZF? Just replace the rear section first as you can use the rear section from any E34 as they're all the same, it's the front section that's tailored to the box length so that's the hard one to replace so should be last resort. Unless of course you find a replacement driveshaft from someone.
