e39 540i mystery light

I have a 1998 540i

i can see the outline for a light beside the traction control light, has the silhoutte of a car and a double ended arrow pointing up and down

doesnt light up at all just curoius

any ideas what it could do, warning for faulty suspension???

self leveling suspension fault.

you dont want that light to come up.

the rear suspension in the car has airbags instead of springs.

they will fail eventually, they all do.

just replaced mine, all up about $700

so i should remove the bulb now while eveything is still all good?

Assuming it is the 540i, unless an oddly spec'd sedan or a touring, it is unlikely to have self levelling. Generic cluster. Just like my tin- top 318iS has glow plug light place and rag top roof light etc.

Nup, 540's had an electronic suspension option

it has the electronic sport suspension button that stiffens everything up

very noticeably i might add

If you do the cluster test it should illuminate that bulb if it's installed..

ah yes sorry, tourings had the air suspension, sedans didn't. im guessing yours is a sedan? the dash installed in them is probably the same
