e39 540i "stumbling" when touching throttle

My old mans 2001 540i has been having problems lately. Had a "cam sensor" replaced, waterpump replaced recently.

Engine light is ocassionally on now, or flashing, and sometimes when touching the throttle (motorway onramps i notice it hardout) it is like spluttering before taking off, like a knocking feeling.

Rather than try diagnose it myself, can someone recommend a mechanic in Auckland I can take it to that is not outrageously expensive? my usual mechanic is a ripoff artist when it comes to diagnosing this type of thing. cheers
