Manual Conversion in e30 in CHCH?

Recommended Posts

hey i was at auto passion talking to the guy there, basil, he was telling me about GAC motorsport, aparently the gut there is into e30s.

does anyone in chch know where this is?

I am looking at a manual g/box for the 320.

Also went for a ride in a mates 318is and was impressed are they hard engines to find? cheers

Anyone know a good mechanic to talk to about the conversion>?

I'd reccomend DCH Motorsport (Washbournes road) to perform the conversion if you can't do it yourself - haven't heard of GAC.

I'm in the process of doing a manual conversion myself on my 320i, sourced a parts car to provide bits for the swap - makes things very easy.

Your mates 318is white with the IS front lip? May have seen it around - looks good.

or....DIY! its not hard! just takes a bit of time, and common sense. ideally you would want a donor car, as then you dont have to buy all the bits separately. would hate to see how much a conversion would cost getting it done. a 325i engine swap would be a lot easier, and easier to source. not to mention the better power/torque. and there at least two of us on here who would be happy to talk you through it. email is [email protected] if you want to ask anything

sorry to go OT but i seen a white 318iS around as well, very cool, looks genuine. My mates didn't know what the f**k i was on about when i pointed it out.

Supposedly only like 7 or so in NZ so good luck finding engine from one. Could pull one out of the E36 compacts (M42/43/43 not sure exactly?) but why bother? I can only think of two 4cyl BMW engines i'd want in my car. Just chuck 2.5 M20 in there, cheaper and easier.

As for auto -> manual try and do what surge is doing, (buy parts car- might work out cheaper as well if you can sell bits) as having everything there will make it so much easier. PM tim (bumpstop325) he's done a few conversions so will be able to give you a few pointers. Also search, theres a few threads around on it. Definatly do it though, one of the best mods you could do.

Also an M3 CSL cruising round at the moment, so cool. How many of them in NZ?

edit- dam gus beat me to it, meh, said same thing anyway

GAC's 2.8 costs roughly 7.5K iirc, and puts out anywhere between 220-240hp. That blue 2.8L on tardme right now dyno'd close to 240hp, so their work is good, if rediculously pricey.

318iS on tardme is finally about to get a new home too.

Mike, 2 the two bangers being S14 and S42?

12 CSL's in NZ, one for sale at JC, your's for 160K, 12K on the clock, its a 03 though, not an 04.

GAC would be Graeme Clyde.

Obviously, I'm going with DCH, but Graeme knows a lot about E30's. Would be more of a specialist in all out performance (6 cylinder) on them, that's for sure.

On the 318iS front, the club president has the mintest one for sale at the moment. I believe $12-13k E36 Hell Red.

I also believe that there are now 20 CSL's in the country.

If you are talking about hotting up an M42, take it to Richard at DCH, as they are the base for the Super Tourer motor (S42).

Ok, make it three 4 bangers i'd have, forgot about S42. Other is boosted M10, either from F1 or 2002. (Yes I would put an older engine in, 170 horse is just as much as M20B25)

Actualy maybe its four different 4 bangers then.
