Manual 318i e46 poping out of 2nd gear

About 1/3 the time I'm down shifting into second gear it pops out and no matter how many times I try and select again 2nd it wont stay?

Any ideas? or anyone else on here with a manual e46 that has had this problems?

could just be wear in the all the gearlever bushes etc ,

or a failing gearbox selector fork inside the box etc

Sorry, forgot to thank him for that. Not yet but i will be soon, thinking about taking it to Ernest at Bavarian Motor Works on the shore.
