Sudo 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 What are the HP & torque ratings for the E36 325i and 328i And does vanos make a huge difference?

Dnz 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 (edited) Vanos gives more low end power. Non Vanos engines were stronger - better valve springs and stuff. In conclusion, youd probably want vanos, unless you want better internals for something.. The other prob is that the non vanos cars were first year e36's and therefore would have been 'the new line with problems' models. 325 and 328 have same HP essentially, but tourque is definately on the 328's side. It will pull faster than a 325, and can arguably be modded to equal e36 M3's (stock) (US spec at least methinks) Edited July 24, 2005 by Dnz
Nic325i 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 it is apparently very easy to get 20-25hp more from the 328i just by swapping the intake manifold for a m50 one from the 325i - they put a very restrictive manifold on the 2.8 litre engine (emissions or tax reasons I think). Same mod works for 528 and 728 also. This would give power roughly midway between the 2.5 litre and the 3.0 M54.
Jimocles 0 Report post Posted July 24, 2005 just a note on that site, it looks like he has put in KW's instead of the BHP he put at top. 325i 192bhp/141kw 164.2bhp at wheels at least on my one.
