icedemon 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 hey guys, this might be quite a simple question, but I have a 1993 BMW 318is which im trying to remove current 4-spoke srs worn steering wheel on, to replace with a near new wheel from a 1996 320i. the problem im having is that I can feel behind the 4 spokes, and there are 'screw holes' but they look more like metal 'grommits' than any sort of screw. I'm unsure if I should just be prying the SRS unit out as i've tried and it feels like im going to snap something or bend the screw driver. heres a picture from behind, anyone know if im just meant to pry the airbag unit off? if so, does anyone know if the 1996 320i 4 spoke wheel (with 2 torx screws) will fit the 318is properly (the srs connector & the column)? http://iforce.co.nz/i/zpsdhh3n.pas.jpg
icedemon 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 gah figured it out. theres actually 6 screws in total - there are 2 others closer to the signal & wiper sticks. it seems that the wheel is more like an E31 - and the connections dont match a later generation E36, so after all that effort - i cant actually fit the wheel that I do have (seems the setup is a lot different - not just simply splicing connections, because of the horn hub being conductive, vs the other wheel I have)
Wom 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2012 my car came with a 4 spoke and I changed it for a sportier looking 3 spoke had to change over the switch bracket, take out the horn contact switch, and reconnect up the horn wire minus the contact switch these really helped a lot http://www.frankies-bmw.com/3series/diy/st...ering_wheel.php http://e31wiki.org/wiki/Steering_wheel_swa..._switch_bracket
