vanossa 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) Hi Everyone. The car is running beautifully but for this.... There is a sudden loss of power in the engine. I commute on the open road daily and it can happen at any location i.e. hills, straights, bends. This has happened more frequently (3 times in last month?) but has happened once or twice only, as long as 6-8 months ago. When I shut down and start up again it seems to correct. The symptoms include, obvious loss of engine power and timing is out at idle. No signals or checks displayed in OBC or 'check' light on dash. Any ideas, anyone? This has always (so far?) happened once the car is underway on the open road. Thanks in advance. PS... I have had it on a scanner (albeit after market) at a mechanic in Queenstown with no faults discovered. I live in Kingston (a one garage town) 1993' auto, E36 coupe, 155000 miles. vanossa 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2012 Fuel filter or crap in the bottom of the tank?I actually did replace the fuel filter as part of a service and I assumed the same...but possibly crap in the bottom of tank....I've never run the tank dry, although I do fill up mostly when it's near empty? It's going in for a warrant at the local garage - come months end and that will be worth a stab in the day. All theories are worth pursuing here.....it's got me baffled. What was the scanner ?? , If it was a generic obdII one then its not going to tell you bugger all, If this is the case it needs a proper scan with proper equipment to really see whats going on. vanossa 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2012 (edited) I got it on a genuine scanner today (Hansons Auto Services) and no fault codes were observed at time of scan, except an 'historical' one relating to 02 sensor. I explained the symptoms I've experienced above (post scan) and he is suggesting faulty spark plugs as a possible cause too. Paul e36 mentioned the Vanos seals, which I was leaning towards, but I'll update once I go back to my mechanic for the WOF and plugs check....Hope it's just something simple like new sparkies Edited September 18, 2012 by vanossa Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
