I know Roger Townsend MK II RS2000 down here is worth something like that. In saying that, it is has history, which is the bit that really counts.

He has the best presented cars on any race day. You should see his Colonge Capri. Stunning. (although not runnig at the skope classic where the photo was taken)

It is amazing with the Escorts when you compare the times that they run against the 4WD cars in the rally of Otago. They are not far behind at all. Still very compeditive. Hence part of the reason they hold there price. They were also dominant in their day. It is a shame the classic Rallying doesn't get more coverage on TV.

Dale Perry who runs the Rally Drive Rally School just out of Hamilton has a BDA Escort he is completing, to date it had cost him $120,000 to build.

It was immaculate, so I can see why this is that price.

You would spend $120,000 easily.

Escorts are the most successful rally cars to date I think. Its a bugger Ford don't have a worthy replacement (light, rwd).

I've always seen E30s as modern Escorts, back when they made basic, light, fun rwd cars, before they got weighed down with sh*t like luxury electrics and compulsory saftey technology (E36). Hell, my E30 didn't even have power steering :mosh:

I'm a product of Escort Car Club... No I'm not joking, my parents met through it. Dad had a wicked Mk1 with a 1600 lotus before getting a 2.0 - I was was conceived so the race cars got sold

I've been talking with dad about buying a relatively cheap mk1 or a mk2 Sport and having a play with one, maybe a bit of restoration and some grass-kana. On a side note mum was Auckland champ at womans gymkhana back in the 70's - great teacher for hand brakes

Why is this a waste? He will get the return on the capital cost through clients leasing the car to participate in rallies...seems like a well thought out business investment to me. I'm sure that it will still be rallying in 10 years to come.

BDA Escorts are still recognised as some of the best (no 4wnd and turbo) rally cars you can buy/build.

I think what Carl is trying to say is that he wouldn't use $120k on a Escort.

Fair enough to the rally drivers etc it would be a good investment. Think of what you could buy with 120k!! Holey schmackos, just think of that E30 M3 EV0 III on trademe, and then an E39 540 on top of that, or an E39 M5 and cash in the pocket. There is plenty more variations, E36 M3 plus E30 M3, late model E46 M3 etc. The possibilites are almost endless.

All I can say is Grrr knows his Fords and this would be one of the best non-genuine works cars in the world.

I know where he lives, but just like the guys building the Hulme I won't tell you where he is.

It would be a great car. The kind of thing Stig Blomquist would be happy driving. It has a pedigree. A bit like arguing over whether a Zonda Roadster is better value than an Enzo...
