tttr1212 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2012 Hey, did a quick forum search and couldn't find an answer.Question is will I be able to replace a older style 4 spoke e36 wheel, with a newer 97-98 e36 3 spoke wheel ? Does the newer 97-98 have the 2 stage airbag system or a different hub mount system ?
BM WORLD 1286 Report post Posted December 1, 2012 yes providing it has the same type of slip ring on the back so it can all plug , as there are different types depending on the donar car etc. if yours is say a 94-98 the wheel should come from similer years or models etc nice upgrade i am looking at replacing the style of wheel in my 95 e34 540i touring with a sports wheel like that from a e36 318ti motorsport or a 97 e39 523i sport etc

BM WORLD 1286 Report post Posted December 22, 2012 I've done this, easy as but did have to get a new column switch bracket read up http://www.frankies-bmw.com/3series/diy/st...ering_wheel.php and e31wiki.org/wiki/Steering_wheel_swap not always , most of those 4 spoke types have the same slip ring setup as the later ones.if its 94ish its probably the older type about 95 onwards to 1998 uuse the later type. then in the e46 98 and later e39 e38 models etc they use a different setup again , which would not be easy to swap over
