M43 revs then stalls

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Being new to this site I request some help.

Just bought a bmw 318 E36 with the M43 engine, replaced the head gasket as it was blown and old owner had parked it up for 2 years.

It did start before i took it apart just to drive into the garage which is a t estimate to the quality.

My issue now is, I can start it ok with no problems(mostly) leave it to warm up and all is ok, sounds fine no noises or smoke  but when i rev it up it revs ok but then stops, the rev drop to zero.It will restart again but sometimes with a splutter.....I have read all the post about this but nothing seems relevant to my symptoms....could it be the cam timing???

Also the heater is yet to get very hot, the engine is but the air-con defo not blowing 30 degree as i request from the system...do they take an age to bleed through?

Thanks in advance and here hoping it is a simple issue

sticky idle control valve (icv)??

faulty old worn out PCV crank case vent valve.

spilts in intake boot or some othe rac leak etc.

all thes ethings will cause rough idle , stalling etc.

faulty heater tap valve will stop hot water going through the heater system.

or air locks in the coolant system, force water in with a hose while the bleed valve is open so it lets the air out or the system.
