Cab 148 Report post Posted April 5, 2013 Hey guys, I know this has probably been addressed quite a few times as it is pretty common amongst e30's, but what do you think is the cause.. and have you had this experience before? Most people say its because the valves need adjusting but then you read about people getting their valves done and the tick is still there. I will be taking it to get checked soon but just thought I would ask around before it happens so I know what to expect. Has anyone had and sorted this problem? nath 134 Report post Posted April 5, 2013 Provided it is an M20, and provided the pads on top of the valves have no indentation, a good valve adjustment fixes valvetrain noise. Properly adjusted valves still clearly have a noise, but it is a satisfying, efficient tappety tap. On a high km engine the rocker shafts could be worn.
